It’s that time of year again. Or rather, it’s just past that time of year again. What time of year is that? The new year, of course! The time when finishes up its annual New Apps for the New Year (NANY) event.

The goal? Make a new program and release it to the world, free of charge, on New Year’s Day.

NANY 2014 marks the 8th year of the event, with 34 new applications (by my count) released this year. One of those new applications was Blasteroids.

Blasteroids is an arcade game similar to Asteroids in which you control a rotating turret in space that is under siege by asteroids. The controls are pretty simple: Just click where you want to shoot.

This is probably one of my most polished NANY entries so far, and even though it comes as a finished product, I’ve already released an update and am currently working on getting the game running on Android.

I expect to have the Android port ready for download before the end of the month,  and it will include leaderboards and achievements using Google Play.

In the meantime, check out the Blasteroids game page for more information about the game, including links to download, and other news about the game.
